AGRA

AGRA is famous for Taj Mahal which is one of the seven wonders of the world.Taj Mahal is a white marble tomb built by Mughal emperor SHAH JAHAN in the memory of his beloved wife MUMTAZ MAHAL. Taj is a example of best Mughal Architechture.The construction started in 1632 and ended in 1653.It is believed that USTAD AHMED LAHAURI was in charge of construction. FATEHPUR SIKRI

Fatehpur Sikri was the capital of Mughal Emperor Akbar,for 13 years from 1572 to 1585.Akbar has shifted his capital from Agra to fatehpur sikri,to honour a sufi saint.'Shaikh Salim Chisti',who resided here.Akbar respected him lot,as his son Jehangir's birth was predicted by Salim Chisti at fatehpur sikri,.Akbhar renamed him as Salim.The majority of monuments are built with redstones and are the finest example of Mughal architecture.In the south side,Buland Darwaza was completed in 1575,in the memory of victory over Gujrat province.It is believed,that Akbar took  a great interest in construction of fatehpur sikri.He again shifted his capital to  Lahore in 1585,due to scarcity of water and its proximity with the Rajputana; and again shifted back to agra in 1598.Fatehpur sikri is located at 37 km from AGRA by road.

AMARNATH YATRA

Amarnath cave(Lord Shiva) is a holy shrine located in Jammu and Kashmr state.It is situated at the height of 13,000ft.There are 2 routes to reach Amarnath cave.1) via Pahalgam.One can reach Pahalgam from jammu by bus/taxi and it is at a distance of 315km.Pahalgam can also be reached from Srinagar,which is at a distane of 96km.Pahalgam to chandanwari is 16km by bus.Road is good and yatris enjoy scenic beauty,while travelling to Chandanwari.Chandanwari is at height of 9500ft.It is ideal camp for first night halt.Some of the pilgrims camp at Pahalgam on first night. Yatris are offered Tents and food by various authorities. As the yatra proceeds,devotees climb high to reach Pissu Top,which is 3km and at a height of 11,000ft.Furhter,the yatra proceeds to Sheshnag,which is 11km from Pissu Top and 11730ft high.Yatris enjoy spectacular country side.Sheshnag has seven peaks resembling the heads of mythical Snake.Journey to Sheshnag follows steep inclines and wild scenery,untouched by civilization..Pilgrims camp at Sheshnag for second night.The camping at Sheshnag is very enjoyable with deep blue water of Sheshnag lake and glaciers, beyound it.Yatris take bath at Sheshnag lake.From Sheshnag,one has to climb steep high,across Mahagunas Pass,which is at a distance of 4.6km and 14,000ft high and then decsending to Panchatarni,which is at a distance of 9.4km and height of 12,000ft.The last camp enroute to holy Shrine is at Panchtarni.One has to face cold winds,which causes skin crack.The route to Mahagunas and Panchatarni is full of waterfalls,springs.At Panchtarni,five rivers flow and it is belived that they are originated from Lord Shiva's Hair's(Jatas).Holy Shrine is just 6km from Panchatarni A Sangam of Amravati and Panchatarni river is at distance of 3km.Devotees take bath here.Near the cave white soil is found, known as Bhasma.Devotess apply this on body,after taking bath and then proceed to holy cave.After taking early darshan some devotees travel back and reach Sheshnag for night halt.

2)via Baltal; Baltal is 100 km from Srinagar and 400 km from Jammu by road.Baltal to holy shrine is 14 km.But one has to climb steep high and can be returned on the same day.Ponies are available.Yatris can reach holy shrine via Domail,barari marg and,sangam.The route to shrine is extremely scenic and beautiful.After blessed with darshan of this ice-jyotirlinga devotees can return on same night to Srinagar Amarnath yatra, every year commences from june end and lasts for 45 days.

LADHAKH
